Tree Root & Smoky Epoxy Vessel

The resin in this piece is not opaque. It is smoky - a cool, slightly warm translucent tone that lets the tree root show through the walls from every angle. The root fragments are warm brown, rough-edged where the wood fractured naturally, and they read differently depending on whether you look at the outside surface, through the resin from the side, or down through the opening. The piece rewards slow looking. Each viewing angle reveals another layer of what is held inside.

The form is compact and quietly confident with a curve that runs continuously from the footed base through the shoulder and up to the rim without a hard edge anywhere. That base is worth particular attention. The resin closes beneath the root material in a smooth dome, and looking down through it from below reveals the suspended wood in full. It is the kind of detail that becomes a reason to pick the piece up again.

Root is not a predictable material. Its structure is eccentric, and where the lathe met it, the wood fractured rather than cut clean. That fractured edge is preserved here, sealed in resin, exactly as it was.
