Spalted Burl Maple & Driftwood Sculpture

Part of Treverk Woodturning’s celestial driftwood series, this hand-turned spalted maple burl sculptural piece begins as a smooth, rounded base that catches light like polished stone, almost planetary in its calm presence. Across the surface, the spalt lines move like faint constellations, mapping time and growth in dark, organic tracery. From the crown, a cluster of naturally weathered driftwood rises in branching lines, raw and expressive, like drifted satellites or a small burst of trajectory frozen mid-flight. The contrast is the point: quiet warmth and luminous grain below, wild movement and shadow above.

Placed with a little breathing room, it reads like modern organic sculpture with a celestial hush. It makes a strong focal point on an entry console, mantel, or bookshelf, and it especially shines against a light wall where the silhouette can do its work. Pair it with linen, ceramics, and darker metals for a clean, grounded vignette, or let it stand alone as a conversation piece that feels both discovered and otherworldly.
