Honey Locust Platter

Hand-turned from honey locust, this wide platter celebrates the wood’s natural motion in a form that feels calm, intentional, and quietly dramatic. Honey locust is known for warm golden tones and expressive growth-ring figure, and this piece leans into that strength. The grain moves in rippling bands across the surface, tightening as it approaches the center, then opening again as it travels outward, like contours on a topographic map.

Natural checks and small fissures in the wood were preserved rather than erased, then stabilized with subtle epoxy accents. The result is not resin-forward. Instead, the epoxy reads like fine linework that traces the wood’s history and adds a restrained graphic element without interrupting the flow of the grain. In the light, the surface shifts from honeyed amber to deeper caramel and bronze, with the figure becoming more dimensional as you move around it.

The profile is low and expansive, with a broad rim and a gentle interior sweep that keeps the piece feeling airy despite its size. It sits beautifully as a centerpiece on a table or console, and it also works as a platter form if you style it with fruit, dried stems, or seasonal objects.

Dimensions (W x H): 15.5 x 4 in.
